donya and tj’s franklyn canyon engagement session
Oak trees, soft hills, and a serene lake setting in Los Angeles If you’re dreaming of an engagement session that feels like a quiet escape without leaving Los Angeles, Franklyn Canyon Park is one of my favorite hidden gems. Donya and TJ’s session was surrounded by sweeping oak trees, vibrant greenery, and that beautiful hillscape that makes you forget you’re still in the city. And the reservoir? It reads more like a serene little lake, especially when the light hits it just right. We kept things natural, relaxed, and romantic. Lots of movement, lots of laughter, and plenty of space to just be together. Franklyn Canyon has so much variety in a small area, shaded trails under the oaks, open hillside views, and that calm waterfront backdrop that makes portraits feel timeless.
Shot on digital + film photography (35mm + 120)
For Donya and TJ, I photographed a blend of digital plus film photography on both 35mm and 120 film. Digital gives us crisp, true-to-life coverage, while film adds that nostalgic softness, rich tones, and an organic texture that feels like a memory. Medium format (120) is especially gorgeous here, it captures the landscape and the intimacy in a way that feels cinematic and elevated.
